1. Service Description
Stockoscope is an analytical and educational software service. It brings together market data and public company information and applies tools that you control: valuation models, a multi-dimensional scoring framework, screens, and rankings. The method behind each tool is published for you to inspect, and you set the parameters that drive its output, so the result follows from the choices you make rather than from a view we hold. We state measurements and relationships, not verdicts.
Stockoscope is not a broker, adviser, robo-adviser, portfolio manager, or signal service. We do not hold your money, execute trades, or manage investments on your behalf.
2. No Financial Product Advice
Nothing on the Platform is financial product advice (general or personal) within the meaning of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), and nothing on the Platform constitutes our acting as an “investment adviser” within the meaning of the U.S. Investment Advisers Act of 1940 or any equivalent concept in another jurisdiction. Nothing on the Platform is a recommendation, a solicitation, or an opinion intended to influence your decision about any financial product.
In particular, the Platform does not provide:
- investment, financial, tax, or legal advice;
- personal advice that takes account of your objectives, financial situation, or needs;
- recommendations on specific securities, or on whether or when to buy, hold, or sell;
- trading strategies, market-timing guidance, or suggestions on portfolio allocation or weighting;
- predictions or guarantees about future performance; or
- professional advisory, brokerage, or portfolio-management services of any kind.
Any classifications, scores, rankings, and valuations on the Platform are descriptive outputs of transparent rules applied to published information and the parameters you choose. They are derived from objectively ascertainable information and mathematical calculation, and they describe measurements and relationships, not the suitability, profitability, or investment merit of any security. They are not a recommendation, and they are not advice.
Everything on the Platform is general in nature and produced for a wide audience. It does not consider your objectives, financial situation, risk tolerance, tax position, time horizon, or other personal circumstances. Where you need advice tailored to your situation, consult a licensed financial adviser, accountant, or tax adviser in your jurisdiction.
3. Interpretation of Scores, Valuations, and Screens
Our analytical outputs are produced by transparent, rules-based methods that you can inspect and adjust. The following explains how each is to be read:
- Scores. Each of the five dimension scores is a weighted combination of disclosed components. The published default method, with its weights on display, applies until you re-weight, include, or exclude components yourself, after which the result is shown under the settings you choose. A score measures a company against a set of rules; it does not indicate the suitability, profitability, or investment merit of any security, and we never combine the five dimensions into a single overall rating. The five dimensions are:
- Quality. Business fundamentals measured against fixed, published thresholds, using reported financial-statement data.
- Peers. A relative ranking of the company against its sector or industry peers, whichever scope you choose. A high rank describes position within that peer group, not absolute strength: a top rank within a weak sector or industry is still a comparison against that group.
- Valuation.A summary of the gap between the current price and our valuation estimates, which combine intrinsic models such as discounted cash flow with valuation multiples. The model inputs are assumptions you can set and change, shown with a range of outcomes; “price below the model estimate” describes that relationship at your chosen assumptions, not a view on the merit of the investment.
- Analysts.A weighted summary of third-party analyst data: ratings, estimates, financial-health grades, and coverage reported as published, plus price-target figures we compile from third-party news reports of analysts’ targets. All of it reflects third-party analysts’ views, not ours, and we do not adopt, endorse, or verify it. The composite is our weighted summary of those inputs under disclosed, user-changeable weights; it is not a rating Stockoscope issues.
- Holdings. Third-party ownership and filings data for insiders, institutions, and funds, reflecting positions as reported. This data lags the market.
- Screener. The screener returns the companies that match the filters you set. You can build a screen from scratch, or start from a preset screen and adjust its settings; a preset applies disclosed defaults until you change them. Which companies appear, and in what order, follows from the criteria you choose. The results are candidates for your own research, not a recommendation or a buy list.
- Strategies. Our Strategies pages explain recognized approaches to investing (for example quality, value, and dividend investing) and let you run and adjust the screening criteria for each. They return the companies that match the criteria you choose, as candidates for your own further research, not a recommendation, a curated buy list, or a prediction. We do not publish a hand-picked or discretionary list of securities; screen results are generated mechanically by the rules and parameters in force at the time. We do not publish a performance track record.
We do not receive payment, securities, or other compensation from issuers, brokers, or other third parties in exchange for covering, scoring, or including any security. Where a link to an external service is an affiliate or referral relationship, we disclose it at the point of linking.
Our methodologies, including discounted cash flow inputs, scoring weights, and dimension definitions, are revised from time to time as we improve the Platform. Outputs you saw in the past reflect the methodology in force at the time and may differ from current outputs for the same company.
4. User Responsibility
You are solely responsible for evaluating the information on the Platform and for any decision you make. Before acting, conduct your own research, verify key figures against primary sources such as company filings and other independent sources, and consider obtaining advice from a licensed professional. By using the Platform you acknowledge that any investment decision is your own and is not made in reliance on Stockoscope.
5. Risk Warnings
Investing in securities involves a substantial risk of loss:
- You can lose money. Share prices can fall as well as rise, you may get back less than you invested, and a holding can fall to zero.
- Markets are volatile. Prices move sharply and unpredictably.
- You may not be able to sell when you want to. Some securities cannot be sold quickly at a fair price (liquidity risk).
- Concentration increases risk. Exposure to a single company, sector, or theme can amplify losses.
- Past performance is not a guide to the future. Historical figures, trends, and model outputs do not predict or guarantee future results.
- Diversification reduces, but does not remove, the risk of loss, and higher potential returns generally carry higher risk.
6. Data and Model Limitations
Our outputs are only as reliable as the data and assumptions behind them:
- Our models are simplified representations of complex businesses and cannot capture every relevant factor.
- Model output depends on the quality, completeness, and timeliness of third-party data, which may contain errors, delays, or omissions. Corporate actions such as stock splits, dividends, and other adjustments can affect the accuracy of historical data.
- Valuations such as discounted cash flow rest on assumptions about the future. Different reasonable assumptions produce different results, which is why our calculators let you set those assumptions yourself.
- Scores, screens, and rankings measure a company against a fixed set of rules. They do not indicate whether an investment is suitable, profitable, or appropriate for you.
Where our data comes from, how it is processed, and its known limitations are set out in our Data Sources and Usage Policy. Service outages, maintenance, or connectivity problems may also affect the availability or timeliness of data.
7. Regulatory Status
Stockoscope is an educational and analytical software service. We are not licensed, registered, or authorized to provide financial product advice or investment services in any jurisdiction, and nothing on the Platform is financial product advice, a recommendation, or a financial promotion. We are not a financial institution and owe you no fiduciary duty.
You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you, including any local restrictions on financial-information services and any tax obligations.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Platform and all content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, and we are not liable for any investment loss or other damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Platform or its outputs. Our aggregate liability is capped, and indirect and consequential losses are excluded, as set out in the Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability section of our Terms of Service. Nothing in this Disclaimer excludes any consumer guarantee or other right that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or the consumer-protection law of your country of residence.
9. International Use, Amendments, and Contact
Access is intended for educational use and is not permitted where it would be contrary to local law or would require a license we do not hold; see the Jurisdiction and Restrictions section of our Terms of Service for the full jurisdiction terms. We may amend this Disclaimer from time to time; material changes will be notified by email or in-app notice, and the “Last Updated” date above always reflects the current version.
