This policy explains where Stockoscope sources its financial data, how that data is processed, and the limitations you should be aware of. 1. Where Our Data Comes From
1.1 Primary source: Financial Modeling Prep (FMP)
Substantially all of the market and financial data on Stockoscope is provided by Financial Modeling Prep (FMP), a licensed data aggregator that compiles information from stock exchanges, company filings, and other providers. This includes stock prices, company financial statements, ratios, analyst estimates, ownership data, company profiles, and the company logos we display. The US treasury yields we use to derive a risk-free rate for our valuation models also come from FMP.
1.2 Other inputs
- Company logos: primarily from FMP, with Logo.dev as a fallback for some companies.
- Equity risk premium: used in our valuation models, based on data published by Professor Aswath Damodaran (NYU Stern).
- Reference checks: from time to time we may consult primary materials such as company filings on SEC EDGAR, exchange data, annual reports, earnings releases, or investor presentations, particularly when producing editorial or blog content. These are occasional cross-checks, not live feeds into the Platform.
1.3 Coverage
Stockoscope covers more than 3,000 US-listed companies, currently including:
- United States: the S&P 500, S&P MidCap 400, and S&P SmallCap 600 (together the “S&P 1500”), plus the broader Russell 3000. All are US-listed companies that trade on US exchanges in US dollars.
Coverage and indices change over time as listings change and as we add markets.
2. How We Process Data
2.1 Sourcing
Our data is obtained through our data provider’s licensed API rather than scraped from individual websites. That provider in turn compiles it from exchanges, regulatory filings, and other sources.
2.2 Normalization and calculations
- Currency: all figures are shown in US dollars (USD), the trading currency of the US exchanges we cover. Where a company reports its financial statements in another currency, multi-year figures are converted to USD using exchange rates from the relevant period.
- Corporate actions: historical data may be adjusted for stock splits, dividends, and similar events.
- Ratios, valuations and scores: computed with transparent, rules-based methodologies that combine standard financial formulas with our own “5D” scoring framework. Methodologies are documented in-product, may be revised over time, and are adjustable: you can re-weight or exclude the components behind a score and change the assumptions behind a valuation. Outputs follow from those rules and the inputs and parameters you choose, and do not reflect any assessment of your individual circumstances or suitability.
- Quality checks: we run data-quality checks, but errors, delays, and omissions occur; verify any figure against official filings before relying on it.
2.3 Refresh cadence
Most datasets refresh daily through an automated overnight pipeline. As a guide:
- Stock prices: end-of-day prices refresh after each market’s close.
- Financial statements, ratios and analyst data: refreshed daily; new figures appear once the issuer files and our provider ingests them.
- Ownership and holdings data: refreshed on a regular schedule (typically daily).
- Scores and valuations: recomputed daily, after the underlying inputs have refreshed.
3. Data Usage Limitations
All data is provided on an “as is” basis without warranties. Data may contain errors, delays, or omissions and should be independently verified before use in any decision-making.
- Data is provided for educational and research purposes only.
- No data should be used as the sole basis for an investment decision.
- You are responsible for verifying accuracy against official sources (such as company filings on SEC EDGAR or the relevant exchange or regulator).
- Historical performance data does not predict future results.
- Analytical outputs are descriptive only and do not constitute recommendations.
- Market and financial data is licensed from third-party providers and remains subject to their terms. It is for your own personal, non-commercial research; you must not redistribute, resell, or build a competing database from it (see the Financial Data section of our Terms of Service).

4. Your Personal Data
This policy covers financial and market data. How we handle your personal data is set out in full in our Privacy & Cookie Policy, which covers your rights, the security measures we apply, and how long we retain it. We do not share your personal information with our data providers, other than transient technical data needed to deliver the Service (for example, sending a ticker symbol to a logo lookup).
5. Updates and Changes
We continually evaluate and onboard new data sources to improve coverage, accuracy, and timeliness. This policy may be updated to reflect new sources, processing methods, or regulatory requirements; material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice.
